Mid-September Wedding

I had the pleasure of dancing at a wedding in Beckwith Pointe located in New Rochelle, NY. By pleasure, I am referring to the enjoyment I experienced as so many guests got up to dance! Normally there are quite a few that tend to be shy, but on this occasion, all the ladies were on the dance floor! The DJ even looped one of the songs as he noticed how much fun everyone was having. I have never experienced a DJ extending a song, and some dancer may not like the idea as it cuts into the allotted time, but honestly I did not mind at all. If it were possible, I could have gone for another 5 minutes ;)

Allahalek Ya Sidi- To Raks Assaya or Not to Raks Assaya

That is my question! Raks Assaya is a women's dance which imitates the dancing that men in upper Egypt do, but is done in a more playful manner.  The mens dance is called Tahtiyb (pronounced "tah TEEB").  Tahitiyb is a material arts dance, in which men enact fighting with the long sticks as weapons.  I am debating whether to do an assaya routine to "Allahalek Ya Sidi" or not.  I tend to enjoy songs with strong Saidi rhythm (Doum Tec Doum Doum Tec) which is why I am so unsure of using "Allahalek Ya Sidi."  Bellydancer's out there, do you think "Allahalek Y Sidi" would make a good Assaya routine?

Song of the Month - Fakerni by Ana Haifa

I have decided that I would pick a song each month, as from time to time I tend to find a new song that I play over and over! July's pick is "Fakerni" by artist Ana Haifa. Not only is Haifa one of the most beautiful women I have ever seen, but she is also a great singer! I can't help but get lost in this song. I have included a translation for your enjoyment:

Suneydis performing at Diana's Bridal Shower

I had the pleasure of dancing at Diana's bridal shower on June 27th.  My performance included a grand entrance with wings, veil dance, drum solo, raks assaya (cane) and audience participation. Diana was the star during the raks assaya.  After the performance all her guests were able to enjoy a mini lesson; after all they were already warmed up and ready to shimmy!

Here is a clip of Suneydis bellydancing at Diana's Shower:
